Sax Zim Bog Trip!
Mostly a travel day, but we get to the bog with a couple hours to check it out. Thanks to a tip, we decide to get back to the bog before sunrise the next day.

Out at the bog before sunrise! Great Grey Owl flies across the road for our one and only look at a Great Grey for the entire trip. Northern Hawk Owl was super cooperative the entire weekend. Black-backed Woodpecker evading us! This is my third year at the bog, and I’ve yet to get a really good look at a Great Grey. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get up there during an irruption year.
So much of the trip that I filmed did not capture the best parts of the trip, which was hanging out with friends. Great to run into Hannah, Lindsey, and Cassie!
Lifers include (bird and mammal): Ruffed Grouse, , Black-billed Magpie, Townsend’s Solitaire, Wolf, and American (Pine) Marten.

Trip back home. Ryan and I do some birding on the way back. Checking out some ag fields for Snow Buntings, Lapland Longspurs, and Horned Larks. We manage to just find the Horned Larks.
